Plumbers Hearing Aid Cane (8317)

I'd guess this handle was made for a plumbers use then put on a cane. I have seen one other. You put the end of the metal rod on a pipe put the receiver to your ear and running water or drips can be heard. Circa 1920. Handle and 10" metal rod is factory made. Shaft is ebonized hardwood of the period.
