Fan On A Folkart Shaft (8646)

The wood on the shaft is all wood burned and has hand engraved stars, very well done. The fan slides into the hole on the end of the shaft. I know it looks really wierd, but the fan isn't glued in so the fan slides out for hand holding. The inside of the ring on the shaft has the same red on it as the outside of the fan. It sure looks right to me, a creative hand made cane to keep his wife out of the sun. This is exactly the same fan that is used inside canes, and they are very rare to find in usable, and good condition. The typical kind has a string to pull it out of the top and a string at the bottom to pull it back in. This one has a stiff metal rod with a brass button at the top to pull out and push in. Certainly late 1800's.
