Item Detail

Hearing Aid (8668)

The two things that are unusual about this cane is that the handle is removable from the shaft for hand use. I have never seen one that is removable, but I assume it was made as a handle made for another use. The other feature that is uncommon is for an aid to be signed. The brass collar on the shaft has the exact patena as the aid, with a ebonized hardwood shaft. It is signed W. H. Bailey, 36 Oxford St., London. The experts will tell us how old it is. What I do know, its before 1891, the year McKinley said England had to be on the item if it was going to be imported to America.
