Doctors With Ivory Instraments (397909)
Surgical cane from the early 1800s. I cant find anything wrong with this cane. It has a number of lessons to teach us, and as usual a question. Lets start with the question. What does the lion on the lid mean?
Lets take the silver tube, which was always made from several pieces. The seem lines prove age. The Shaft has silver eyelets that match the handle. The ferrule is nearly 4 which makes it before 1850. No marks of any kind, but it test sterling. The ivory instruments all match. The pictures show the individual slots for the surgical set around the outside. The instruments with square handles are for eye surgery and fit well in the center tube. They all match and seem to be a complete set. In place they all fit tightly against the lid, so they dont move much. $50 for the meaning of the crest on top.
