Sundial also has leather under the compass, and in the lid. Sundial also screws off for a secret compartment in the brass stem under the sundial, its about 3" long by one inch in diameter. Good patena as hand didn't hold that part. Also has a long original ferrule which is typical of a ferrule older than 1800
