Flashlight (398679)

A great military signaling cane. Made of black painted metal and wood, it has a ball handle that is about 1 1/2"in diameter. It has a round bright metal button that allows battery operated Morse code light messages to be sent through small round windows on the shaft. There are small round eyelets for a carrying cord along the with a bright metal fitting eight inches down the shaft that unscrews to allow access to the signal apparatus for replenishing batteries and or the bulb. It is marked: "Pat. App, For", just below the fitting, and the cane terminates with a 1 1/4" painted ferrule. The overall length is 35 7/8" and the condition is very good with some minor chipping of the black paint from usage. It is perhaps American, ca 1930's.
