Pair Of Vinaigrettes (8940)
Belonged to the same person, as the monogram is on the base of each. Both are sterling, but one is vermeil, gold over silver. The tops are different on each, the silver one turns to Close and the gold has a lid. The silver for daytime use and the gold for nightime. The silver a malacca shaft and the gold ebony. The handchasing is Art Noveau, 1890 to 1910. Both are one piece handles, with roses, which is unusual. Notice the stippleing everywhere except where the monograms are, a lot of work went into these. Definitely custom made womans canes, that are in my opinion American. When I think about which country made the best decorative handles Europe and Russia usually win. With Gemstone and enamel handles they win most every time, but as I look at what American was best at, its hand engraving and chasing. Take the time to look in Archive at the American cane catalogs. Our workmanship was terrific, and unique in the world of canes. I think our presentation canes are way underpriced for their workmanship and the cost to replace them today. A lot of people think they all look alike, but when you start to understand them, they don't. Your choice $1500 each
