Displaying Canes In Porcelain Holders (8130)
This is my method of displaying canes in my home. My collecting what we will call umbrella holders, and we call them that because they usually keep water from getting on the floor or carpet. Even if they are made from wood they usually have a waterprof metal liner. They were equally used for canes and umbrellas. I started using them when my wife thought they were pretty enough and small enough to use in different corners of the house. The problem came when the shafts started to scratch every time I added another cane. I always filled them tight.
One day I saw I didn't have that problem with my golf clubs because they were in tubes. I buy golf tubes for .65 cents each, then cut them in half. I put rubber carpet pad in bottom so a dropped cane doesn't crack it. I only buy undamaged pottery and porcelain holders. More than 50% are damaged. When there is something wrong the price always goes down when you want to sell. Then I stuff the holder full of half tubes. I cut 1" dowells 9",6",3" in length and put them in the tubes with the longest ones in back. The examples below show how you can see every cane.
