Mountian Stick Barometer (8173)
Full stick barometer, mahog and brass circa 1840.
In the style of John Fredrick Newman. Used by inverting and taking off the ferrule. The vernier adjustment and hanging ring is under the ferrule. 23" to 31" of mercury. 0 to7000 ft. Gimble mounting for cabin wall. The screw in the last picture is revealed when the handle is screwed off. It is used to lock down the mercury reservoir. When the barometer is in use, inverted, there is a glass container that allows the mercury to move up and down in the tube. When used as a cane there is little or no mercury in the reservoir.
