Microscope For Grain (8349)

I have no doubt the microcope is a handle made for another use, but again every thing goes together so well. The shaft is tappered, making it impossible to make today. I take that back, I ask a machine shop how much it would cost to make a tappered shaft, and they told me the set up cost would be $10,000, and that would be for one size. So one could make one, but everyone would know by the second one it was new, as you can't make new metal look old. I take that back, you can do it, but not so one who is used to looking at chemical induced finishes can't tell. See gadget cane phil. under cane forum. The entire cane is nickel plated brass and plain, making it 1890 to 1910.
The interior shaft pieces are for putting into grain bags to get grain or seeds out to test for mold, without opening the bag. The microscope is German by Hensoldt from Weizlar. The optics are terrific and it has measurements in the lense to tell the sizes you are looking at. I have seen others of these on canes, but they are uncommon as the microscope is not common. The compass on top looks German and is fixed to the base of the microscope. The instruments are screwed from the handle for use. Tight fit with no rattles or would it brake easily.
