3.5" Sterling Snuff? (8372)

This is one of the most beautiful chased scenes imaginable, but what makes it interesting to me is its massive size. Four inches is my largest handle and this one comes in second. The one piece handle is so ornate there is no room for a name or monogram, so they inlaid it in the real ebony shaft. Next to that are the silver eyelets. Although the ferrule has been replaced with a piece of coppertubing, I'd date it before 1850. Seems too big to be snuff, maybe chewing or smoking tabacco.
