The Batteries Are In The Shaft In This Hearing Aid (8400)

How this was made excites me, even if the hearing aid was made for hand held use. The sound control plugs and unplugs into the crook, and is turned on and off by the brass woven collar and the batteries are in the shaft below that. The wires to operate everything are all concealed in the shaft, both below the collar and above to the end of the crook. The duo microphones fold so as to be able to hear people from two different directions if desired. The ear hook attaches the ear piece to the microphones attached to the cane when not in use. It's all quite bulky for pocket use, that's why it was so clever to attach it to a cane. There are no markings of any kind, not even pat pend. The shaft is made from beech, and the clip that holds it to the shaft is original to the mechanism. I imagine it has to be circa 1910 to 1920 according to how everything is made. Every thing is so mint it didn't get much use. Which brings us to our purpose for today, a lot of gadget canes didn't get much use. There were a lot of canes made that didn't work very well, because they were cheaply made, or were useless.
