Simple Doctors (8482)
I say simple because of how clean lined this cane is on the outside. The walnut veneer is beautiful. On the inside it has one of the most complete set of doctors instruments possible. Nickel plate was invented in the 1880's with this one according, to this plain cane, 1900. We are talking for handles and other no cutting parts, as the blades were polished steel. By the 1930's nickel was gone and chrome had taken it's place. Medical instruments followed the same pattern, Art deco and chrome were synonomous, with stainless steel after that. Before nickel plate were ebony and ivory handles. In the 1860's some of the instruments were solid silver.
Doctors canes have similar characteristics. They don't have multiple instruments, loose in a shaft, that get stuck. They don't have items that are mixed periods, ivory with chrome. They don't have items in them that were made after 1930. A lot of medical stuff that's on the market, that people put in canes, are from WWII.
They don't have instruments in them that are later or earlier than the cane. What they do have is what you will see in the next several canes.
