French Ratan Cover With Silk Flowers (8616)
This is only the second handwoven ratan cover I have seen, the other in this book is cane length and therefore older than this short.
These high quality expensive parasols, used for keeping off the sun, were usually French. This is the only one I have ever seen with a Pyrography handle, burned design in the wood. They used a alchol burner with a hot needle. It was a hobby from 1900 to 1930. They were sold as a kit in a wood box with a printed design. They would then burn the lines on the box, which were usually flowers. The handle on this one was done by hand by a good artist.
