Communion And Holy Oil Set (8629)
Very elaborate Priest cane with the Pix as the handle, the container for communion wafers. I don’t know why, but the bottom of Pix is always curved up, maybe it’s just fits the priest hand better or it’s easier to get out the wafer. Below the Pix are the three holy oil containers, explained in cane # .In the shaft is a glass flask and wine cup for the sacraments. The top of the Pix is all hand engraved with a pattern that would not be common. The A for Alpha and U for Omega stand for the beginning and the End, and is the part that’s uncommon. The cross is on all, but the engravings on this would have made it an expensive, compared to most. All these parts were made for other uses, and could be put together to make a cane like this, but the antique shaft with original finish fits perfectly. The handle is all sterling with gold over called vermeil. Circa 1920
