Patch Box (8832)

A patch box is exactly what it's named, a container to hold the patches Ladies and Gentleman put on their faces in the 17 hundreds and early 18 hundreds. It was a fashion statement. It is really a beauty mark to look like a mold. I wish more people would put the reasearch they have done on their antiques with them. This one is unusual, because their is a paper bottom put in the bottom of the box to tell us what the hallmarks say. Made during the reign of George the III, in 1806, in Birmingham, by Samuel Pemberton.
