 Sterling Sports Pump On Leather Shaft (8842)
I like the leather stitched up the side of the shaft. That would not be something easy to do without the right skills or equipment. It is on a tapered wood shaft. This and the next airpump cane are the only ones I have with this type of shaft. The way this works is quite clever as the needle is stored inside the pump when it is being used as a cane. When the handle is removed from the shaft the last 12" sterling collar is screwed off and reversed for use.
The only marking is sterling on the handle, indicating it is probably American, and I guess 2 quarter of 20th century. The end that is on the next cane looks earlier, 1st quarter. I don't know if this is a handle made for another use, as I have never seen another. Knowledge welcome.
