 Ivory Chart Reader Or Whatever (8847)
This all ivory handle is 1.7" by 4", with a 1.7" massive mahogany shaft with original finish. All the tools inside are ivory with silver findings. The instrument in the center is for measuring distances, surrounded by a pen, pencil and knife, for cutting louped pages, typical of sets found in canes. I would put this in the 1870's. By the 1880's ivory systems were gone, and the patented nickel plate ones were made in quanties.
