Ivory Watch Repairmans cane with ivory keys (8848)

The double ended set of 5 ivory watch keys are rare in themselves, let alone the condition of the all ivory handle. The best chance of dating this one comes from the white brass collar with little lines, which we see on canes from the 1860s. The crotched mahogany shaft goes well with it, as does the hand engraved monogram on the ivory with black India ink. This work is typical of the scrimshaw for the period. In the center of the keys is a ivory container with a screwdriver for taking a watch movement from a case, as well as other adjustment functions. I dont know the country of origin for this one. The original ferrule is missing, making it difficult to determine the sometimes slight differences in countries. My guess again is England because of the superior workmanship of the ivory.
