 Cane Within A Cane (8850)
What qualifies these canes to be here isn't the classical ivory roman soldier with all ivory shaft, but that the case that holds it is also a cane. Not fancy, or elegent, but it was not common to make a cane case in the shape of a cane. The assumption is, the person didn't want people to know, when he traveled, that he had something that valuable or maybe ostentasious inside. An all ivory cane would have indicated
wealth, and carrying it this way was like wearing a piece of paste jewelry.
