French Pin Fire Chassepot (8852)
I have gotten a lot of the information I have learned about gun canes from Cane Curiosa, and this one is no exception. I love how she talks guns. She says this is a, "Chassepot sliding fermeture system. A vertical peg locks the sliding breech. These pin-fire gun canes were manufactured in various sizes(12,16,24mm) by the Manufacture Stephanoise d'Armes, another weapon factory in Saint-Etienne." Most beginners don't have Cane Curiosa as it sells for 300 to 400. Catherine Dike I give you my word, when your book is reissued, I promise to wipe these words from my book. As of this moment these words are not hurting you or your family, which I would never want to do, I respect your lifes work, and give you credit for it.
If you want a gun that can't be fired, because they don't make the ammunition, this is it. Most of these also have a rhino handle. I also think they all came with stocks, but most are missing today. A small threaded hole at the back of the handle can't be removed. I think an original wire stock will add $250 to the value of the cane. I think sliding fermeture sounds sexy. Circa 1880.
