Cricket Cage In Ivory (8853)

Crickets didn't come with this cane, but thats what I think it is. The Chinese ivory carving has filigree cutouts. It screws apart at the ivory cap and below the cage. All ivory threads. The Chinese liked to carry crickets as it was music to them. I like that the bottom of the cage is nicely carved and that it is removal from the shaft. It sits nicely on any surface for indoor use. Both the stem and the cage have the same dragan on them, and were carved by the same person. If it's not a cage, what is it?
