Late Apple Juice Crook Bakelite (9113)
These are actually quite rare in this shape, as there were so many different plastics by this time. I actually just finished testing all my handles from my umbrella shorts. I was actually quite amazed at how many I thought were bakelite because of the colors and most of them turned out not to be bakelite. When I bought these it didn't really matter if the handles were bakelite as I was buying them for how pretty they looked and for how cheap they were. In fact they still are cheap, because nobody collects them. I also didn't know how to test them as I have no smeller. When you rub them theres supposed to be the formaldahide smell, but I could never smell it. When I learned that simichrome turned yellow when putting on a little dab and rubbing, I was able to specifically buy only bakelite. Today I don't want any but bakelite, because in the end, they will be the only ones that will have any value. There are too many plastic handled ones to ever be of value, there will never be enough collectors to buy all those that exist. As of may 2007 you can consistantly buy the plastic handled ones for $15 and the bakelite non figural ones for $15 to $50. I've paid $50 for several of mine that had unusual colors or handles, but I'll never pay the same price for the second one. It's my opinion that the bakelite ones will go up the most percentegewise, than any other catagory including canes.
