 My Favorate pair of Priest Cane #1 (9212)
The handle is the wine chalice for communion. In the handle is the base for the chalice, cross that screws on the lid of chalice, napkins for wiping the lip clean on the chalice, and the drip pan for the candlestick that is in the shaft. The shaft also contains a massive flask for wine and the stem for the candlestick. The shafts are made from hand made tin hand painted with symbols of the church, cross, and fleur-de-lis, symbol of French royalty, in gold leaf. All original paint with most important feature, a tapered shaft with bimetal ferrule. I can't repeat this often enough, very few canes didn't have a tapered shaft. Both canes have an alternative handle, with this one being Jesus. These also fit the definition of a big mans cane as both handles are massive and the shaft is almost 2" at the top and l" at the bottom. Impressive to look at and carry as both handles feel good in your hand. Circa 1890 is only a guess, but I think it would be older rather than newer, as both the shaft and chasing on the chalice make it victorian. There are three pieces on this chalice that make all the parts original, the base, stem, and lid all have matching chasing, engraving.
