Swiss Watch And Bakelite Music Baton. (8934)
This is one of those craftsman made pieces, with a weird combination of uses, which again is the kind of thing I like.
The watch is made by Pierce, a Swiss watch. I know that because it says so on the movement. It also says antimagnetic, which I haven’t seen on a watch this small. The characteristics that it has that gives it creditability is that the collar and the watch case are all bronze and look like one piece. The handle is butterscotch bakelite, and darker than the matching musical baton on the inside. Even though the colors are different, I would expect that to be the case, as the handle would have been exposed to light and oil from the hands. The baton handle would have been kept from the sun light and oil and weather. Shaft is full bark Malacca, bakelite ended in 1954, the shape of the watch is from the late 30’s to the 40’s, and the handle and collar are Art Deco. It might be authentic and it might not, what don't you like about it?
