Lang Style (8739)
What I like about this undocumented percussion gun cane is that you can’t tell it’s a gun cane by looking at it. In Dike it looks like a Lang’s Patient in 31/20. In 31/22 she shows one that looks like Langs, as the stock bends like Lang’s, but it isn’t. As you can see, the one pictured here has a tau handle not a crutch as in the book. In 31/22 she says the hammer is pulled up, this one is pulled down. I can also see the Lang’s . nipple, the part the cap is put on is in the end of the barrel, with the hammer in the top part. A knowledgeable gun cane collector, David Fink, says Langs are quite rare. David if you know who made this one, I sure would like to know. It would seem there are 100’s of gun canes we will never know the makers of. I wonder if any gun collectors, which most would be more knowledgeable than Catherine Dike, know who made any of the gun canes pictured in her book that aren’t named. I think values are more when you can trace any cane.
