Remington Rifle Cane with after market handle (8740)

Here’s a subject I know little about, Remington gun canes. One the surface, many would say what’s to know, they made 500 of each model and cost between 5000 and 15000, and every weapon cane collector wants one. P.S. I’m not sure there were 500 of every model.
What’s never been written about is the value of incomplete Remingtons. I hear there are new Remington handles. I also have two to discuss.
The first one has a serial number of 13. The handle is a ladies leg of the same period. I read once that some of the first ones had custom made handles. I could only hope that was the case with these, but the odds are against it. They will at the very least, give us a point of reference to ask questions, and look at differences. Number13 has a pin thru the shaft just below the threads. There is also no collar at the handle or where the cartridge is inserted. The threads in the leg match the shaft.
The jury is now in, according to Elliot Burka, a remington rifle cane expert, the handles on both of mine are after market handles. He does have one that screws off, so. The good news is, he has several in his collection, which took away the disapointment. He says there were only 4500 made, and because they were once illegal many were destroyed. He is writing a book on the subject, and believes they will continue to go up in value. These are a 3* rarity and E value $3000 to $6000. An original one can be F or G $6000 to $15000.
