Should I Become A Cane Dealer? (8750)

I bought a whole collection of lamplighters I canes, all different. They, however, all do the same things. They light the wick, turn up the wick, have storage for, either kerocine or candle, and are about 3' tall. Dike has one exactly like one in the collection, # 20/22 in cane curiosia. The rest are all just a variation of that one. These are really quite rare and I would like to see them all stay together. This is the first time any of these have been offered, and I have never seen any like them sold in any of the auctions. What makes them rare is the fuel storage. There are lots of candle lighters with smoke bells, they are used in churches, but not wick raisers with fuel storage, as that was a profession in most cities in the late 1800's.By the early 1900's electric lights and gas lights eliminated kerocene, which had a wick that had to be trimed and replaced at regular intervals. It was very labor intensive to keep those lamps working. After they were eliminated, most of the lighters were thrown away, as there was no longer any practical use for them. Very few have survived, doesn't that want you to keep them and the story I just told you alive for future generations. You could open a lamplighter museum, and charge a fortune, as there would be no other lamplighter museum in the world. If any one ever wanted to go to a lamplighter museum they would have to go to yours. You could say you are the largest collector of lamplighters in the world. If you are really cheap, you could have the museum in your basement, and deduct the space from your income tax as a non profit. You could have school children come in and give them free entrance so you wouldn't make a profit and have to give taxes to the government. I put the tax thing in so I wouldn't be accused of being materialistic, always talking about money.
By the way, did you know you could become a cane dealer, and never have to sell a cane. All it takes to be a cane dealer is a sales tax license, which cost me $1, 38 years ago. I don't know what it is today, but its not much. Once you are a cane dealer, you can tax deduct all your trips to buy canes,or go to cane conventions. All gas, motels, and depreciation for your car, motorhome or RV are legally deductable. All the food you eat when you travel over night is also deductable. If you come back the same day its not deductable.Don't forget you highspeed internet to read my website, or your cell phone to call me. Being a dealer will allow you to buy your canes from dealers and not have to pay sales tax,and get a dealer price, because someday you might sell them. If you put them in the name of your regular business, that makes a profit, they become deprecable. For example, you are a audiologist, and you collect hearing aid canes and display them in your office, you can deduct the depreciation. If you display them, they are decorations just like the pictures on the walls of your waiting room. Now the part where you never have to sell a cane. Most businesses don't make money for 3 years, and the government understands that. So they don't usually give you a hassle for 3 years. After 3 years losses could trigger an audit, although it might not, it depends on the luck of the draw. My recommendation is to go out of that business after the third year, and give up that tax license. Johns Canes will cease to exist. If you never sell a cane, there is no sales tax due the state you live in, or income tax due the Federal Government. I would never recommend you then start Mary's Canes. I would never recommend you do anything dishonest. I am just telling you what the law says about starting a cane business, should you ever consider it. I would like to recommend you buy all these lamplighter canes, you never know where it will take you
