Husband, Wife, And Swagger Stick? (8757)

This will introduce matched sets of canes, illustrating the need to have something in common with those we love. The most common theme is sons wanting to be like their fathers or fathers wanting their sons to be like them. Which do you think?
For those of you who think most presentation canes look alike, you won't know how rare exact hand chased canes are. Statistics tell us that only 10% of material history has survived, and there were hundreds of makers and thousands of paterns of these canes. In 35 years I have seen very few paterns alike. All 3 of these handles are different sizes, yet they are exactly alike. Think of the talent it would take to make that happen. The mans cane has an ebony shaft, matching his ebony swagger stick or childs cane. I'm not really sure which it is. At 21" it a little short for most childs canes, yet it's thin for a swagger stick. Most child canes go from 24 to 28". Yet I have them both shorter and longer. Most ladies canes are considered from 30 to 34". As a rule of thumb, a cane is 1/2 a persons height. My wife is 5'4" and she takes a 32" cane, the length of this womans cane. A child using a 21" would be 42" tall. Thanks for listening to all this self talk, I have just decided it's a childs cane. Swagger sticks are fatter. It's not easy as both swagger sticks and childs canes come in the same lengths. In the previous pictures of childs canes the handles are tau, and L, which are easy to tell. This one has a knob, which most swagger sticks have, making it harder to tell.
The womans cane has a snake wood shaft, which is usually ebony or ebonized hardwood, for night use. I guess rules were made to be broken.
Circa 1890.
