Blue Enamel Watch Cane (8783)
My all time favorate watch cane. The enameling is mint with hand painted flowers on top. Lid lifts up to reveal a 17jewel watch. The watch hinges up for winding, which also reveals the hallmarks for 1930. Watch is unsigned, but enamel lid is signed peri, and has R.S. in a diamond. It was assayed in Birmingham. The shaft is Olive wood, and a horn ferrule in mint condition. In fact the entire cane looks unused. The handle screws off to reveal a pen, pencil, and knife in the shaft with blue glass in the ends to match the blue enamel. The three holes are outlined in ivory and there is a matching ivory spacer 3" down on the shaft where the wood changes to cherry. The watch then screws off and the main part of the handle is an ink well. The threads on the shaft and inkwell are handchased sterling. They were not turned on a lathe, which would have been much easier to make.
