Paperweight 8 Day Watch (8793)
As much as I know about watches there is always something you don't know. When you look at the movement and the odd patented winding, and setting mechanism, ;it says Depose, leading you to believe its a french patent. Then you see the swiss cross in another spot and you think its swiss. I'm going with swiss on this one as they were the most famous of the paperweight watch makers. A paperweight watch is when the crystal is bulbulous over the dial. This is a really well made strong piece, with everything fitting perfectly. The threads on the shaft are hand chased, with the stem being able to be completely removed for winding and using the watch off the cane, and the using of the pen, pencil, and knife. I really like the 3 different colored stones on the tops of the writing set, so they can tell which one to pull without having to take them all out. I have a nearly identical set in a umbrella cane that commemorates the Czar coming to Paris in 1896. Everything seems circa that date.
