Paperweight Watch Swiss Made (8794)
I don't care if someone made this yesterday. They were certainly clever, and put wear in all the right places. Every thing about this watch is upside down for a standard paperweight watch.
When you look into the well in the top of the shaft, there has to be room for the stem in the hole, but also a differt depth around it for the pin set mechanism on the ball to set the hands. There also has to be a curve to support the curve of the ball. There is a name on the dial, which is hard for me to understand what the letters are. Looks like Tabea & Hype.
The fluting is machined on the stem, which would take a highly skilled person, as the curve is also machined on a lathe. Circa 1890 to 1900. I got it in a consignment shop in Russia, although I don't think it was made there. This won't mean much to most of you, but it is a lever escapement which is far more reliable and repairable than the cylinder.
