1700's Doctors Pomander in Ivory (9184)

This is another one of my favorates because of how early and untouched it is. It's never been refinished, the ferrule has never been polished, it has it's original silver collar, all ivory threads, which arn't damaged. It has all the wear you would expect from a cane from this age, see the picture of the full bark malacca shaft. It even has the stains you would expect on the inside where the spong and vinigar solution were stored. What I like best about it is the star on top, which makes it American. See Beyond Dike and Cane curosia for a complete description of pomanders. Both are different, very interesting, and one of the best stories of any gadget cane. All the characteristics of this cane date it to the last quarter of the eighteenth century.
