Tiger eye is opaque quartz, the most common gemstone family in the world. The gemological term is Chalcedony. Onyx, carnelian, Sard, chyistaphase, agate, are a few that carry the same chemical make up but vary in their colors. These are inexpensive natural gems that are usually cabochon, or dome shaped in jewelry. Citrine, and amethyst are two of the most famous clear quartz ones.
